Bad News: the Curse of Progressivism

Our spending binge started in 1902 with the Curse of Progressivism; Theodore Roosevelt, very modestly, added 3 lines of spending to the budget: Welfare, Health Care and Education. There is a need for all of these, but the constitution does not give these powers to the Congress. These programs are best left to the private sector with some input by the cities, counties or states.

Wow, the spending explosed

  • 1902 spending Welfare: $5 million
  • 2015 spending Welfare: $361 billion
  • 1902 spending Health Care $3 million
  • 2015 spending Health Care $1.02 trillion
  • 1902 spending Education $4
  • 2015 spending Education $133 billion

Over and above, we had numerous wars that we got into that were mostly NOT necessary.

I am lamenting the excessive cost of government; the price tag for 3 selected years:

  • 1835     $2.57 per person
  • 1900     $8.80 per person, reasonable increase
  • 2012     $7799.00 per person.

The trend is toward bigger and bigger deficits and excessive taxation. I think of that phrase from the 23rd Psalm: "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death." Psalms 23:4a

We MUST, in order to survive as a nation, balance our budget AND reduce the cost of the federal government.
